In this era slaves were not that expensive and there were massive plantations that took up huge chunks of land so saying only a few owned slaves is downplaying the fact those "few" owned thousands of slaves or more. As mentioned in the video millions of slaves were still owned as property who owned them the masses or a few people is completely irrelevant to the situation. Incorrect about the North not having raw materials. While the south was plentiful in plantation goods the North still has plenty of land with resources. Even though they were more industrialized than the South it still wasn't massive industry like you'd see today they had plenty of necessary materials including farms of their own.

Being a historian doesn't end at getting a degree. I relent to call anyone a historian if they aren't willing to keep learning and having good faith discussions about history. This isn't personally directed at anyone I'm just saying I see far too often people who want to shut down discussions about history over their feelings about things which misses the entire point. We study history to learn from it and that learning should never stop. You can have discussions about history that don't need to turn into heated arguments or shouting matches.

Dan is incomparable. If I had to choose just one song he’s covered as a favorite I just could not do it. Maybe I could choose my top ten favorites but even that would be a challenge. Aside from his incredible voice he’s an incredible person much loved by many.

I've had this conversation recently with the harsh vocalist of my band...that newer EC has been a little more on the formulaic side however: it normally means that I am going to get what I want and know it and they play around with it. You know there is going to be a breakdown. Epic breakdown. But like in Every Time We Touch the double up the bridge and lower the pitch of the beat and the vocals. Most people, even those that do not know how prevalent breakdowns are in EC songs feel like it should be right there..but it isn't. They know we know that it's coming but they play with that. I know that there is a good chance that there will be a pop-leaning bridge...within 20-35 seconds of the beginning of the song it's going to drop and pull a 180. All those will happen. And many know it. But they still have interesting ways to twist and play with our expectations.

Okay...I want to be nice. However, comparing combustion engines to literally owning another human being, is the absolute worst analogy I have ever heard. That was a big swing and a miss. You can't remove the human rights talk, and try to talk about this subject in any justifiable way. It is a human rights issue, period. EC has commented in interviews that they always consider how their songs will translate to their live shows, and they place a high priority on that aspect. If you think about it, that bit of repetitiveness/predictability in their tracks you were talking about makes sense, because a live audience who might not know their songs well could learn them quickly in the moment and sing along. This builds one hell of a connection to their live audience. IMO it's one of the many reasons they are known for being such an amazing live band. Not only are the guys masters at their craft in terms of song writing and production, but they are pretty genius at connecting with people as well.

Stigler was invited to reunions of the B17 crew and their descendants. At the first one, he told Brown that he didn't feel like he belonged there, because he was a German pilot fighting on the other side. At the time of that reunion, the crew had 25 descendants. One of them (I don't know which) told him that none of the descendants would even exist if it hadn't been for his actions, so he belonged there just as much as anyone. The only fatality of the incident was the tail gunner, who was already dead when Stigler caught up to the plane. I read that when he saw the dead tail gunner, he immediately thought of his brother who had died in a bomber. Everyone else survived. Brown and Stigler both died in 2008 (Brown was 86, Stigler was 92). The last survivor of the crew was the waist gunner, who lived until 2016.
